Gilles Marini was born in Grasse, France on January 26, 1976. After graduation from high school and having already worked as a baker since he was 8 years old in Cannes, Gilles joined the French army and was stationed in Paris where he acted as a fireman for the famous Brigade des Sapeurs Pompiers de Paris and it was in Paris that Gilles met Fred Goudon, a famous photographer who introduced Gilles to the world of modeling. After fulfilling his military duties, Gilles returned to Cannes where he worked long hours as a baker in his father's bakery until the untimely death of his father, Georges Marini.
