Anyway it seems that the photos have been kept in Bitmap format. Is there any chance to have them in jpg form?

The pictures are in .jpg form. Are you using Internet Explorer? IE sometimes saves pics as bitmaps even if they aren't. Unfortunately, I've never figured out how to fix this -- anyone have any suggestions? (Aside from switching to Firefox.)
